The Visa Verification Service

Use the online Visa Verification Service to check details of a New Zealand visa that Immigration New Zealand (INZ) holds.

About the Visa Verification Service

Current visa records held by Immigration New Zealand can be checked online. The service shows:

  • basic visa information (type, start and expiry dates)
  • personal details recorded for the visa holder
  • visa conditions — for example how long the person can stay and what they are permitted to do.

Who can use the service

Anyone may use the online service provided they have the visa holder's consent and a RealMe account. Visa holders can check their own details or permit a third party (bank, employer, education provider, health provider, immigration adviser, sponsor) to check on their behalf.

Note: The Visa Verification Service is delivered via VisaView. INZ offers VisaView variants specifically for employers and education providers.

Checking a visa

To verify a visa you need to supply basic identity details exactly as they appear on the visa or passport. Typical required fields:

  • family name
  • passport nationality
  • current passport number
  • date of birth
  • gender
  • visa start date

If a third party checks a visa they must have the visa holder's consent — verbal or written (for example in a form or contract).

What information is available

After a successful lookup, the system typically displays:

  • visa type and key dates (start, expiry, travel expiry)
  • number of entries allowed
  • INZ client number and recorded names
  • passport number, nationality, date of birth and visa conditions

The service does not show travel movements, the status of any in-progress visa applications, or details of past expired visas.

Privacy and handling of personal information

Personal information must be handled in line with privacy rules: used lawfully, kept no longer than required, shared only with authorisation or lawful purpose, and destroyed when no longer needed.
